After completing my medical studies in Erlangen, I graduated with certifications in internal medicine (1993) and in cardiology (1994) from the Centre of Internal Medicine in Nuremberg; the head of the Department of Cardiology was Professor Gottwik. I have been a practising cardiologist since then, working together with my father until the end of 1998. The practice, which my grandfather founded, has been in continuous operation for 70 years. He was a "specialist in heart diseases", as the certification was known at that time. Prof Michael Jeserich assumed my father's position in the practice in January 1999.
